WiMAX Operators Outbid Satellite Industry for Advanced Wireless Spectrum (AWS)
DBS operators in the United States have taken an
aggressive approach to the Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum
auction currently being held by the FCC. A consortium called Wireless
DBS qualified as a bidder; it includes EchoStar, DirecTV, News Corp.,
Rupert Murdoch, and Charles Ergen as interested parties. However the
DBS operators' bids, although initially among the highest submitted,
were largely unsuccessful, and Wireless DBS has dropped out of the
bidding.

Israel Company Receives $11 Million to Fund WiMAX Triple Play Technology
WiNetworks announced that it successfully raised $11M in venture
capital funding. In this round, most of the funding came from WiNetworks
existing investors, Cedar Fund, Columbia Capital and Rho Capital, with
Evergreen entering as a new investor. This is the second major financing
round for WiNetworks, which was founded in 2003 with seed financing from
Cedar Fund. The capital raised will be used to expand WiNetworks'
operations and accelerate its 'Go to Market' plan.
Stratellites Get U.S. Airforce Approval
GlobeTel Communications Corp.'s (AMEX:GTE) wholly owned subsidiary, Sanswire Networks LLC, has been granted a Statement of Capability (SOC) by the Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) of the United States Air Force, permitting Sanswire to flight test its Sanswire 2 high altitude airship technology demonstrator. Sanswire began to seek approval for the SOC in February of this year. NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center, also located at Edwards, will provide meteorological services to the Air Force Flight Test Center in support of Sanswire's flight test effort.
